At least eight people have been reported killed due to floods in Pakistan. Five people died in the Sindh province while three died in the Baluchistan province during the previous week. However, in a further unfortunate development five more people were reported killed on Monday, 18th August in the country. Three provinces (KPK, Sindh and Baluchistan) out of four have taken the most brunt of heavy rains while the situation in the Punjab province is relatively better.

Earlier Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had issued a flood alert amid heavy rains in the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province from august 14-18.

Most of the parts of the province, from upper areas of Hazara and Malakand divisions to low lying areas of D. I. Khan, Bannu and Peshawar divisions, are expected to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Tourists had been advised not to travel to the mountainous areas during the alert period. All the concerned provincial departments have also been alerted to remain prepared to meet any eventuality.

On Monday, 19th August record-breaking water levels have been recorded in mountain drains of D. G. Khan and Rajanpur in Punjab. Heavy down pour and flood waters from hill torrents have not only caused damage to rural settlements and crops but flooded the urban areas also.
