Iran is facing an unprecedent heatwave these days. The Iranian government on Tuesday declared a two-day nationwide holiday for government workers and banks due to searing temperatures across the country according to state media reports.
According to the VOA the decision came after the meteorological office forecast temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in many cities and hovering around 50 degrees Celsius in the southwest. State media reported temperatures had this week exceeded 51 degrees Celsius (123 Fahrenheit) in the southern city of Ahvaz, reported CNN. A record electricity consumption has also been recorded amid this unprecedented heatwave.
